Spring always follows the winters of our lives.

PLEASE, someone buy this 16x20" canvas for $50 so I don't have to look at it any more! 😈

"Duckling for Dinner"
The same dolphins visited me, within 20-feet, every day when I lived at the water's edge on the Gulf of Mexico at Clearwater and Dunedin, Florida. Inspired by the work of Robert Wyland, this 18x24 watercolor on archival canvas, needs no additional frame, is ready to hang on your wall. $100 plus shipping
Dave Hunt, 3507 Parkwood Dr. Greensboro, NC

Sold.
Horses on the Merry-go-round,
when I was just old enough to hold-on, seemed real and alive. They each had names and personalities in my mind. I wondered why some looked happy and some looked sad. xodave

Water Oaks, as they were called when I lived on a dirt road
beside St. Joseph Sound at Dunedin, Florida.
I loved each one as I walked along that deeply rutted road nearly every day.
Huge, 1920's wooden mansions with these trees lined the unpaved (rare) road.

18x24 watercolor on archival canvas, needs no additional frame, is ready to hang on your wall. $100

There were maybe a hundred bulbs planted in our front yard at our Bogus Hollow Farm
where we lived 8 years in Rising Sun, Indiana.
Winters in the country were always hard. So, looking for the colors of lichen to change marked the time to search for tiny green shoots of the coming flowers and easier weather.

For Emily Hunt Adams
New-born baby male calves cost fifty dollars back then around Rising Sun.
Neighboring meat farmers kept the females in their herds for future income as baby-makers
or just to be grown out for later auctions. Twice each day in late winter,
I would bottle-feed one of these lovable babies and give them names.
As with puppies they seemed to love me back.
But of course it was meal time that they loved. xodave

Not for sale.
I was struck with wonder when I saw a photo of a monk meditating by a river. Adding imaginary colors of sunset on some imaginary mountains made a natural fit for a painting. xodave

Grammy's house in Athens, Illinois remains only in memory.
She heated it with a "coal oil" stove in the middle room.
There was a cemetary next to it. An Outhouse, too.
She is buried with my Landau family at Rose Hill in Petersburg, IL. N.F.S. xodave

Lyrical abstraction refers to abstract paintings that are softer and more romantic in nature.
Instead of drama and tension, this style has a relaxed randomness and spontaneity.
It is called "lyrical," because of the imagery that allows the person to interpret or "read" it.
xodave

This style could be called abstract expressionism, emotionally intense and spontaneously created.
There is usually rebellion, tension and high drama in such compositions. NFS xodave

The Next Rembrandt
Painting is so easy and emotionally satisfying. Above is my Opus 4, a 16x20 acrylic on canvas. Wow, was this fun! In my first week of trying, my FOURTH pictture. I couldn't imagine then that it was happening. I would imagine that a red, white & blue would be good in the corner. I looked on google for Images of the American flag. There were hundreds. I found one I could paint there. It looked okay. So I stared at the images and another thought came along: I googled for pictures of "octopus." I found an octopus with an angry looking expression. Adding a yellow hairdo completed another part of the total picture. On and on. Opps, I didn't like a little part I had painted under the chin of the orange woman so I simply covered it up with a glob of two or three mixes of green. When it all felt done
I showed it to a couple of friends. Both said, "You are the next Rembrandt." N.F.S.

I had a ton of fun adding all of these disconnected and silly images I found on google.
The completed acrylic picture was on a 16x20 canvas. N.F.S. xodave

It was around noon, when two months after my first painting, April 14, 2017, I shot this Steak 'n Shake dessert with my cell phone camera, then came home and completed this painting before dinner.  N.F.S.

"Serbia"
The closer I've come to the end of my journey through life I've become more of an Empath. An Empath is a person that is extremely sensitive to the emotions and energy of other people, animals and environments.  Depressed by the murdering politicians around the world who were focused on Serbia recently, Picasso's Guernica gave me thoughts and pictures to help me vent my own emotions. I became obsessed with painting this 20x30 archival canvas using only black and white tubes of acrylic paint. I cried big cries every day that I worked on it. Click to see it better. Not for sale. xodave

Alicie Warren, PhD., says, "When you study tree architecture you will never see trees in the same old way." Dr. Warren's daily work is to scientifically study what it takes to maintain a balance of
mankind and the natural environment. She manages South Florida's Kingman Reserve.

On Saturday, Feb 10, inspired by Alicie's environmental work I was discussing "tree architecture" with my buddy, Alan. He took me to a tree he had climbed and played on as a young boy.  Here it is, photos above and below.

Experimental drawing.
"I don't draw. I don't sketch."
Ever since I was a little kid I've not been able to draw. Not even tried to draw or sketch. And then one day in 2017 I picked up a fine point marker and did this. xodave
